KE Adventure Travel has an outstanding collection of climbing holidays that will take you to the world's most spectacular mountain ranges. Our climbing trips usually involve the ascent of snow-covered peaks where climbing ropes, ice axes and other items of mountaineering equipment may be used. Our climbing holidays can involve multi-day approaches on foot to a basecamp below the objective mountain. On this stage of the trip (which is effectively trekking) there will usually be the support of a trek crew to carry personal belongings, along with any tents, group climbing equipment, food and cooking equipment. The climbing is generally above the snow-line and can be at high altitude. Most of our climbing holidays have an experienced Western leader and in the case of our Alpine trips, the leader is always IFMGA qualified. None of our climbing trips requires more than a single mountaineering ice-axe, together with crampons and a climbing harness. Ropes may be used to safeguard steep or exposed sections or crevassed sections of the route. With long days, high altitudes, glacier camping and the possibility of encountering poor weather, these trips can be challenging.

Bolivia Climber

20 days       from  £1995 excl. flights*

Viewed from the Bolivian capital of La Paz, the imposing peak of Illimani (6438m) dominates the south-east skyline. Marking both the high point and southern extremity of the 120 kilometre-long Cordillera Real, this challenging peak provides a fitting finale to our exciting Bolivia Climber expedition. We acclimatise in La Paz and beside Lake Titicaca, with visits to Inca and pre-Inca ruins and to the Island of the Sun, before trekking in for 4 days to our first objective, the shapely Pequeno Alpamayo (5370m). This peak provides a techincally interesting snow climb via its long west-south-west ridge. Transferring to the basecamp for Huayna Potosi (6094m), we make a 2-day ascent of this popular mountain and then return to La Paz for a day's rest, before setting out to tackle Illimani. Suitable for those with winter climbing experience, this is a superb mountaineering holiday to a mountain range that is famous for reliable weather conditions and for perfect snow conditions.

With over 200 holidays to choose from, KE Adventure Travel has one of the very best collections of trekking and walking holidays worldwide. Graded on a scale from 1 to 12, we have holidays to suit everyone. Our tougher treks are likely to involve multi-day hikes through wilderness regions, with porter support and tented accommodation. Whilst at the other end of the scale, our softer walking holidays are more likely to be hotel or lodge-based with a day-walk format and an emphasis on uncovering the area's history, culture and cuisine. From our earliest days we've developed a range of treks that include celebrated classics such as Peru's Inca Trail trek, the ascent of Tanzania's Kilimanjaro and the ever popular Everest Base Camp trek in Nepal. Alongside these, we have always made it a priority to seek out distinctive and unique itineraries in less familiar areas such as Armenia, Cameroon, Madagascar and Burma. Whichever of our trekking or walking holidays you choose to undertake, you can be sure you'll enjoy breaking out of your day-to-day routine and exploring exotic landscapes on foot, with the chance to experience different cultures.

Traverse of the Cordillera Real Trek

20 days       from  £1895 excl. flights*

Stretching 120 kilometres from the Sorata Valley in the north to the Zongo Valley in the south, the Cordillera Real is a most impressive mountain range, with a host of high peaks, including 6 over 6000 metres. KE's trekking holiday through the southern section of this ‘Royal' range is a genuine classic, keeping to high trails and crossing several passes close to and over 5000 metres. Our route provides a great diversity of scenery, including lovely alpine valleys with picturesque lakes, snow-capped peaks and scattered Quechua Indian villages. Before setting off on trek, we acclimatise beside the fabulous Lake Titicaca and spend a night on the Isla de Sol (Island of the Sun) with its Inca temples and pathways. Bolivia is the jewel in the crown of the Andean countries, with its spectacular landscapes, fascinating history and the friendliest people in South America. In recent years, KE groups have met just a handful of other trekkers on this absolutely outstanding holiday.

The Salt Plains and Volcanoes of Bolivia

14 days       from  £2195 excl. flights*

This inspirational 2-week trekking holiday explores the bizarre landscapes of western Bolivia, from Lake Titicaca southwards to the vast white salt flats of the Salar de Uyuni. We spend a couple of days on and around Latin America's greatest lake, Titicaca, before flying south to Sucre and the silver-mining town of Potosi. After an excellent acclimatisation hike in the Cordillera Kari Kari, we travel on to Uyuni, with its ‘train graveyard'. Crossing the edge of the salt flats to reach the foot of Volcan Tunupa, we then have a 2-day hike via the crater of this multi-coloured mountain. Continuing our journey to the Sajama National Park, we see rustic churches, grazing vicunas and flocks of flamingoes and other Andean birds on a number of remote lagoons. Then, from Sajama Village, we make an early start and set out to make the ascent of the non-technical, snow-capped peak of Acotango (6052m). Finally, before returning to La Paz, we have a scenic hike to the Kasiri Lagunas, with the chance to swim in a fantastic natural hot pool. If you are looking for a trekking holiday with a difference - try this breathtaking Bolivian adventure.
